The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to build an 18-km link road that will connect the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway (within Karnataka) to the Bengaluru-Kolar Highway (NH-75).

Having said that, this project is aimed at helping motorists heading to Andhra Pradesh border towns, including Chittoor, Tirupati, and nearby destinations.

68-km Stretch Already Open – For Free

Recently, a 68-km portion of the expressway within Karnataka was opened to the public without any toll fees. This is because construction in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh is still going on.

Right now, vehicles are using the road from Hoskote to Bethamangala (KGF). However, due to the lack of proper connectivity at the end, motorists are forced to use narrow village roads to reach their destinations.

To solve this, NHAI wants to upgrade local roads — district and village roads — and connect the expressway to Sundarapalya and Mulbagal areas along NH-75.

As per TOI, an NHAI official said, “Right now, motorists are forced to use village roads to continue their journey. By linking the expressway to NH-75, more people will benefit, and toll collection could begin soon."

Currently, around 1,800 to 2,000 vehicles are using the expressway daily, and that number is growing.

    Two-Wheelers Breaking Rules Despite Ban

Even though two-wheelers, autos, and tractors are officially not allowed on the expressway, many of them are still seen entering it.

Authorities have put up signboards and are working with local police to stop this.

The expressway passes through three police zones — Bengaluru Rural, Kolar, and KGF. In KGF, checkpoints are set up to warn bikers not to enter the expressway. However, camera-based fines and strict enforcement haven’t started yet.

NHAI has already asked the executive engineer of Kolar district to submit a detailed report on road upgrades and improvements needed to make existing roads motorable.
